	Quartz Movement Quartz movements derive their name from the oscillator used in the movement. This oscillator is a very small piece of refined quartz rock that produces a piezo-electrical effect in the circuit. Quartz crystals are extremely accurate. They can be mass produced which makes them less expensive than mechanical movements which require a higher degree of craftsmanship. Quartz movements allow the watch to be worn without being wound.
