More about A Lange & Sohne Grand Saxonia Automatik Watches
The GRAND SAXONIA AUTOMATIK projects true grandeur and embodies supreme horological expertise. It comes in a 40-millimetre case and contains the acclaimed self-winding SAX-0-MAT movement, consummately hand-finished down to the very last detail. It also features the ingenious ZERO RESET mechanism. The GRAND SAXONIA AUTOMATIK is a prominent self-winding watch for larger wrists. This masterpiece is powered by a lavishly hand-decorated movement that unquestionably ranks among the most beautiful automatic calibres of the era. Its magnificent design is a model of harmony and equilibrium. Thanks to its size, this timepiece expresses stately elegance. The solid-silver dial, the gold appliques, and the gold hands assure excellent legibility. Moreover, the watch features the unique ZERO RESET mechanism. When the crown is pulled to set the hands, the seconds hand automatically jumps to zero. This useful invention simplifies the synchronisation of the watch with an official time signal. The GRAND SAXONIA AUTOMATIK is available exclusively in 18-carat white or pink gold. Its case is carefully finished and polished by hand and has a unique, engraved serial number. The watch comes with a crocodile strap and an engraved gold buckle. Its solid-gold winding crown with the embossed Lange signature is protected against splashwater. And the sapphire-crystal caseback reveals its precious heart: the Lange calibre L921.2 SAX-0-MAT. The SAX-0-MAT is a technically sophisticated movement of so far unmatched beauty. The first part of its enigmatic name stands for the geographical origin of the horological idea: SAX for Saxony. The other three letters MAT refer to the fact that it is automatically winding. And the mysterious 0 in the middle symbolises the technical wizardry behind the patented ZERO RESET mechanism. All surfaces of the movement are lavishly decorated by hand, even those that normally remain concealed to the eye of the beholder. The three-quarter plate is finished with Glashütte ribbing. Small levers and jumpers are decorated with straight graining, wheels with circular graining. The undersides of the plates feature a perlage pattern, and the spring barrel is finished with solarisation on both sides. Additionally, all the edges in the movement are chamfered and polished. The self-winding calibre is powered by a bidirectionally winding three-quarter rotor made of 21-carat gold and platinum. A reduction gear with four ball bearings that minimise friction transfers the energy to the mainspring barrel; it can store enough energy to run the watch for up to 46 hours. The three-quarter shape of the rotor affords a view of the intricate escapement with the shock-resistant screw balance, the Nivarox 1 hairspring, the hand-engraved balance cock, and the whiplash precision index adjuster.
