Indeed, he is one of the greatest horologists of all time. He perfected the self-winding watch, created the first oil-free escapement, incorporated the first shock absorber into a timepiece, developed perpetual date mechanisms, and invented and patented the Tourbillon. Signature Breguet styling is evident in today's masterpieces; blue steel hands, guilloche engraving, and the fluted caseband.

Its features are the hallmarks of the Breguet style, from its finely-fluted caseband to its hand-engraved guilloché dial. With its strong personality, the CLASSIQUE represents the ideal face of time. A.-L. Breguet's historic invention, the tourbillon regulator, was patented
in 1801. This device was conceived to compensate for the errors in rate caused by the constant changes in the watch's position. It consists of mounting the escapement and sprung balance in a
mobile carriage which rotates on itself with utter regularity. Errors are thus reproduced regularly and cancel each other out, rather than accumulating. Two centuries later it remains a technical tour de force of which very few watchmakers are capable. |
