Brand Information: Girard-Perregaux
Since 1791 when J. F. Bautte created his first ultra-thin timepieces, this Geneva master watchmaker has produced exceptional timepieces. Constant Girard developed the wristwatch concept in 1880 after German Emperor Wilhelm I ordered the novel timepieces for the German navy. Although not immediately popular, the concept eventually took off and in 1930, sales of wristwatches exceeded pocketwatches for the first time.

The rattrapante function mechanism: The two superimposed chronograph hands can simultaneously perform an unlimited number of timing and split timing operations. This exceptional mechanism is equipped with a two column wheel system, which ensures reliable and accurate control of the two chronograph functions. The rattrapante function is equipped with a sophisticated isolating system, the purpose of which is to prevent friction causing amplitude losses when the rattrapante is stopped. Pressing the rattrapante push-piece moves the rattrapante column wheel forward one position. The rattrapante clamp closes, locking the rattrapante wheel. The rattrapante hand is stopped. At the same time, the isolator wheel with its fitted pin, superimposed on the rattrapante wheel, shifts the rattrapante lever, thereby isolating the seconds heart cam. Pressing the rattrapante push-piece a second time changes the rattrapante column wheel position again. The clamp opens, releasing the rattrapante wheel. The isolator releases the isolator wheel and frees the lever, which returns to its initial position against the seconds heart cam.
The foudroyante function mechanism: In a world premiere, Girard-Perregaux's new Haute Horlogerie model combines a Tourbillon with a foudroyante second. A new structural design was created to achieve this combination. Normally, the escapement wheel supplies the energy for the foudroyante second while the Tourbillon, turning on its axis, draws its energy from the escapement wheel. In the GP9973 movement, the foudroyante train, comprising a foudroyante second wheel, the foudroyante escapement wheel and the foudroyante star, draws its energy from a special barrel with slipping spring. The ingenious gearing system based on this train enables accuracy to 1/6th of a second. |
