50th anniversary limited edition of 5957 numbered pieces. Famous manual−winding chronograph movement that was worn on the Moon (and engraved as such on caseback). Rhodium−plated finish. Slim Dauphine hands.
Reflecting its space legacy, the Omega watch has white hands the same as those of the Omega watch used on the Apollo 11 Moon mission. The counters and the black aluminum tachymeter scale on the bezel feature Arabic numerals to offer supreme clarity and legibility. The dial of the new Omega Moonwatch has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal provided with anti-reflective treatment. The Omega watch is equipped with the manual-winding movement - Omega Caliber 1861, the movement that powered the initial Omega Speedmaster that traveled to the moon.
The stainless steel case of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch sports the major characteristics of the Speedmaster family, including distinctive curved and faceted horns and oversized push-buttons for the chronograph activation. The stainless-steel case back reveals the seahorse medallion and the number of the Limited Series from 0000 to 5957.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is secured to the wrist with a stainless steel bracelet equipped with a fold-over clasp, the design of which was suggested by the first solid link bracelet developed by Omega in the 1960s. The Omega watch offers the advantage of the 45-hour power reserve and 50-meter water-resistance.
The Limited Edition Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is created to become a highly-demanded item among avid watch collectors.
The Omega Speedmaster watch withstood the eleven strictest NASA tests and six Moon landings. The Omega watch has accompanied astronauts of every American manned space flight. At present time it is used on board Russian ISS International Space.
In 1965 the Omega Speedmaster Chronograph received an official NASA flight-qualification for all manned space missions. However, the first ever Omega Speedmaster to travel into space was the one worn on the wrist of astronaut Walter Schirra who flew on board the Sigma 7 in 1962.
The Omega watchmakers provided the Speedmaster with the ability to resist extreme temperatures and zero gravity. The Omega Speedmaster made the history when it landed on the moon worn on the wrists of Apollo 11 astronauts in July 1969. The prominent timepiece was given its legendary nickname - the Moonwatch.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch gained even more fame when it played the crucial role during the dramatic Apollo 13 mission in 1970. The astronauts had to deal with a reserve oxygen tank explosion that caused the stop of all the timekeeping mechanisms found on board. Commander James Lovell used his reliable Speedmaster Chronograph to time, with a fraction of a second precision, the extremely important firing of the re-entry rockets to provide the safe return of his crew to Earth. the timepiece's merits were rewarded with the 'Snoopy' Award, the highest honor of NASA astronauts.
It was also the Omega Speedmaster watch that accompanied astronauts in 1975 during one more crucial moment in space history. During joint USSR-USA Apollo-Soyuz docking the astronauts shook hands in space at the height of the Cold War and it turned out that the crews of both countries had the Speedmaster Chronograph on their wrists. |
